Every day, the government buys billions of dollars’ worth of goods and services from businesses. In an ongoing effort to assist businesses interested in selling to the government, the New York City Department of Small Business Services APEX Accelerator offers Technical Assistance.
This workshop will introduce you to Checkbook NYC, a powerful tool for navigating New York City’s procurement landscape. Participants will gain a solid understanding of key terms and features, enabling them to efficiently explore government spending data. The session will show how businesses can identify relevant agencies, track payment patterns, and use this information for market research to pinpoint opportunities. Special focus will be given to how MWBEs can leverage Checkbook NYC to align with agencies with strong diversity goals and spending habits, identifying and targeting subcontracting and prime contractor opportunities, and building strategic partnerships. Additionally, the webinar will explore how businesses can use Checkbook NYC for marketing purposes, refining pricing strategies by tracking agency spending trends. Finally, we will demonstrate how combining Checkbook NYC with other resources, like PASSPort, creates a comprehensive approach to securing government contracts.

The NYC SBS offers free business courses to guide NYC entrepreneurs as they start, operate, and grow their businesses. Courses are available on core topics in entrepreneurship, including business planning, financing, and marketing, and are accessible in multiple languages, including Spanish, Chinese, and Russian.
